Building Society strengthens senior leadership team with key appointments

Chorley Building Society has announced a series of significant senior leadership changes as part of its continued focus on growth, resilience and member value. The appointments were confirmed at the Society’s Annual General Meeting, which took place on 20th May 2026.

 

Kim Roby has been appointed Chief Executive, succeeding Stephen Penlington following his retirement from the Society after more than 20 years’ service. Kim is the Society’s first female CEO.  She previously served as Customer Services Director and has been with the Society for 20 years, bringing deep organisational knowledge and a strong track record of member focused leadership.


The Society has welcomed Carolyn Thornley-Yates as Commercial Director, a newly established role designed to support future growth. Carolyn brings more than 25 years’ experience across the building society sector, including senior roles at Hinckley and Rugby and The Stafford Building Societies.


Becky Quirk has been promoted to Director of IT and Transformation, following two years as Head of Transformation. Her appointment reflects the Society’s commitment to digital transformation and investment in modern, secure technology for Members and colleagues.


Liz Pearson has been promoted from Head of Operations to the newly created role of Director of Operations. Liz joined the Society eight years ago and has played a pivotal role in leading the Savings and Mortgages teams whilst strengthening operational procedures.

 

Completing the new Board structure are the existing roles of Chief Risk Officer (Steven Melbourne) and Chief Financial Officer (David Shelley).  Steven joined the Society as Head of Risk Management in 2017 and became a Board Member in 2023.  David has been with the Society since 2016, when he joined as Head of Finance. He was promoted to the Board in 2022 as Finance Director.

These appointments reflect the Society’s commitment to developing leadership and building a diverse, future focused executive team.”
